Welcome Message from President

Greetings and welcome to the Iota Zeta Omega chapter website.

For over 90 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority members in the  Des Moines graduate chapter have answered the call to be of service to all mankind.  We have an expansive history of helping our community through projects such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Expungement Clinic, Festival of Trees & Lights, Creative Visions, LadyLike conference, I'll Make Me a World Festival, and voter mobilization/education/registration efforts.

Since 1978, the Iota Zeta Omega chapter has presented our signature program: The Scholarship Cotillion annually.  Through this activity we celebrate and support African American high school seniors to as they embark upon their forthcoming post-secondary education.   In partnership with the Iowa Ivy Foundation, a non-profit organization, the program includes college-readiness and scholarship opportunity workshops and community service initiatives.  We have awarded over $40,000 in scholarship funds to cotillion participants.

As a chapter, we are dedicated to Soaring to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood in our community.  Please feel free to explore our website and gather more information.  If you are an organization interested in partnering with Iota Zeta Omega please complete the contact us form.

Yours in Service,

Helena Young
