Privacy policy
This policy explains what information akaizo.org collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The website is operated by the Iota Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in Des Moines, Iowa, and also hosts pages for the Iowa Ivy Foundation, the chapter's non-profit partner. This policy covers both.
Information we collect
Contact forms. When you send a message through the chapter or Iowa Ivy Foundation contact form, we receive your name, your email address, and your message.
Member accounts. Chapter members can create an account to reach the members-only pages. We receive your email address and the password you choose. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us. We never see your Google password.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the site records basic technical information when you visit, such as your browser type, device, pages viewed, and IP address, and it uses cookies (see below).
The website does not take payments, and we do not ask for sensitive information such as financial or government identification numbers.
How we use it
- To read and reply to messages you send us.
- To confirm chapter membership and give approved members access to the members-only pages.
- To keep the website working, secure, and protected from spam and misuse.
- To understand, in general terms, how the website is used so we can improve it.
Chapter roster. The chapter's membership roster, which includes members' names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and birthdays, is available to approved chapter members on the members-only pages for chapter business. Members who have questions about their roster details can contact us.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Services we use
We rely on a few trusted services to run the website. They handle information on our behalf under their own privacy policies:
- Wix hosts the website and stores contact form messages and member accounts.
- Google provides "Continue with Google" sign-in and the fonts used on the site.
The website also links to other services, such as Google Forms (for example, the Ivy League AKAdemy application and the chapter voucher request form), Google Drive, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Information you give on those sites is governed by their policies, not this one.
Cookies
The site uses cookies that are needed for it to work, including one that keeps members signed in. Wix also uses cookies to provide basic visit statistics and to protect the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but members-only sign-in will not work without them.
Young people
This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website. Applications for youth programs, such as the Ivy League AKAdemy and Scholarship Cotillion, are collected through a separate application form rather than through this website. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How long we keep information
We keep contact messages for as long as needed to respond and to maintain chapter records. Member account information is kept while the account is active and is deleted on request.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to close your member account. Email us at akaizodsm+privacy@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Security
We use the security protections provided by Wix and Google, limit members-only pages to approved members, and limit access to contact form messages to chapter officers who need it. No website can be completely secure, so please do not send sensitive personal information through the contact form.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
